Mylène Farmer

Mylène Farmer is probably the most successful pop recording artist in France, yet little is known of her in either the UK or the US. Born in Canada and raised from the age of ten in France, Mylène Farmer is an icon throughout the Francophone world.

Recording since 1984/85, Farmer is a singer known for her soft, strong and high vocals and as a songwriter for her sometimes controversial lyrics. She's also famous for her music videos too.

'Les Mots [the Best of Mylène Farmer]' was released in 2001 and went almost immediatedly to the number 1 position in the album charts. Earlier this year, Farmer released her latest album
'Avant Que L'ombre' which went straight to number 1 and the single 'F*** Them All' (number 2).

K'maro

K'maro, a 25 year old singer born in Lebanon but raised in Montreal since his teens, launched himself in spectacular fashion onto the French music scene in 2004. Even though sung in franglais, K'maro's debut single 'Femme like U' (from the album 'La Good Life') won best francophone song earlier this year at the NRJ Music Awards. Always singing in franglais, K'maro combines rap Francais, soul, R&B and disco to create his own unique infectious sound, and it's a winner! While K'maro may play the persona of a bad boy to perfection, I have to say I've seen the interviews and he seems like a nice guy.

Yannick Noah

Former professional tennis player Yannick Noah is now a major pop star in France. After quitting tennis in the early 90's, Yannick Noah launched a successful career in music. Well known for his uplifting melodies - a blend of African rhythms, caribbean beats and beautiful soulful vocals, Noah's music will immediately transport you to where the sun shines brightly, especially on the greyest of days. A guaranteed 'cheerer upper'.

Zazie

'Rodéo', the latest album from French chanteuse Zazie is a subtle mix of pop, rock and electro. Stand out tracks (from my favourite album) include 'La dolce vita', a track that evokes a grander age but set to a modern beat, the irresistibly catchy 'Excuse Moi', 'Toc, Toc, Toc', 'La pluie et le beau temps' and the magnificent title track, 'Rodéo'.
